Amhránaí sean-nóis den scoth í Nan Tom Teaimín De Búrca. As Ruisín na Mainiach, i gceantar Charna í. Tá Corn Uí Riada, príomh-chomórtas sean-nóis na tíre, buaite aici faoi dhó. "Ar cluineadh binneas níos binne, níos milse ag teacht as aon bhéal" ná na leaganacha atá ag Nan ar an taifeada seo?
Tá sé déanta arís aici ach ar chuma eile ar fad an iarraidh seo! B'fhiú an fanacht ocht mbliana go hfaigheadh an saol Fódhlach deis ar aithne níos iomláine a chur ar réimse fonnadóireachta Nan sa taifead is deireannaí seo. An aon iontas má tá lorg an nós tíre le brath i gcorr-áit ar chuid de na bailéid agus na seáirsí a chaith sí le buíonta ceoil den chineál sin ina cailín óg i Londain dhí sna hochtóidí. Deeply steeped in Burkonian musical backround from her native Rusheenamanagh, Carna, Here's another delightful album from Nan Tom Taimín, the second in eight years, which places her beautiful rich traditional style and voice in a realm all of its own. The Home I Left Behind adds a whole new dimension to her singing and places her musical virtuosity firmly beyond reproach. Better known in Ireland for her feats in sean-nós singing, she meets the challenge of a much more varied programme head on in this album, the very first production on her own label. Here we have a carefully and well balanced selection of pure traditional songs interspersed with traditional and contemporary ballads, six in Irish and six in English, three of which are unaccompanied.
With the exception of compositions by Tom a' tSeoige and Seán Cheoinín, the remainder of the selections are mostly not too commonly known or they are rare versions of better known songs like The Home I Left Behind or Amhrán an Tae. Shades of yesteryear's involvement in a mix of traditional ballad and country singing in London may also be detected.
And so the tradition continues to prosper in the Burke family with the two fine examples by Tara, Nan's eldest daughter. All fourteen songs are bound to have a lasting impression. An guidhe chuile rath ar an álbam nua ach ag súil nach mbeidh fanacht chomh-fada ar an triú ceann.
